Aim. Phonetic deficits are one of the core language-cognitive symptoms at cognitive level aetiology dyslexia in variety languages and orthographies. The presented study examines possibilities diagnosis phonological Slovak language (similar to Czech Polish grapheme-phoneme rules) students upper secondary schools. comparison 237 non-dyslectics 149 dyslectics schools brings new stimulus for diagnostic procedures counselling centres. Four phonemic awareness tests school (aged 15-20 years) were developed. testing tasks included on phoneme analysis/segmenting words non-words (10), synthesis/blending transposition (8), elision (8). Relating Pitch Awareness to Phonemic Awareness in Children: Implications for Tone-Deafness and Dyslexia
Language and music are complex cognitive and neural functions that rely on awareness of one's own sound productions. Information on the awareness of vocal pitch, and its relation to phonemic awareness which is crucial for learning to read, will be important for understanding the relationship between tone-deafness and developmental language disorders such as dyslexia. Here we show that phonemic ...
متن کاملPhonemic restoration in developmental dyslexia
The comprehension of fluent speech in one's native language requires that listeners integrate the detailed acoustic-phonetic information available in the sound signal with linguistic knowledge. This interplay is especially apparent in the phoneme restoration effect, a phenomenon in which a missing phoneme is "restored" via the influence of top-down information from the lexicon and through botto...
متن کاملIssues in diagnosing dyslexia
Since the first descriptions of children with congenital word blindness or dyslexia, the proper criteria for diagnosis of dyslexia have been debated. Issues in this debate concern, among others, the role of underlying causes of reading and spelling and the use of a discrepancy between reading ability and intelligence. This chapter will consider recent evidence from family risk studies of dyslex...
متن کاملMorphological awareness in developmental dyslexia.
This study examines morphological awareness in developmental dyslexia. While the poor phonological awareness of dyslexic children has been related to their difficulty in handling the alphabetical principle, less is known about their morphological awareness, which also plays an important part in reading development. The aim of this study was to analyze in more detail the implications of the phon...
